A Truth-Driven Look At Church Music

A New Look?

Posted by tom On March - 2 - 2010

Hopefully, over the next few days/weeks this blog will be getting a makeover. My thanks to all of you who visit this site. I pray that in spite of its author, it has been a blessing to you and has helped to make you a more biblical Minister of Music.

If you have any ideas on what you would like to see added or changed about Doxology, please let me know with a comment here or on Facebook.

Calvinist Witnessing

This one looks more like a hyper-calvinist or fatalistic approach to witnessing to me…

Who’s Who?

Oh my goodness! I have loved George Winston’s music for many years on the now defunct label Windham Hill. I have also loved Michael Card’s music. His song “Song Of Gomer” will be one that Grace Life will hear as my pastor, Jeff Noblit, is preaching through Hosea. But could it be that they are one-and-the-same???? You take a look at the pics and decide.

Save Me From Myself

Posted by tom On July - 7 - 2009

Here’s my latest YouTube video. It’s a song I wrote called “Save Me From Myself”

Here are the lyrics:

Why do I behave like I don’t love You

Build idols above You

And enjoy lesser things

My amazement never ceases

As my world falls to pieces

In going my own way

Save me from myself

Save me from this earthly part of me

I am my own worst enemy

When I try to make it on my own

Save me from myself

Help me to embrace the cross You give

Help me to die so I might live

In fellowship with You

Why do I recoil when asked to suffer

Even search for a buffer

From the pain of this cross

Without Your grace Failure’s my companion

And begs me to abandon

This sinking ship I’ve made

To whom shall I go to whom shall I go

‘Cause Lord, You hold the words of life

To whom shall I go to whom shall I go

Lord Jesus, You are my Life

I’m Back…

Posted by tom On May - 4 - 2009

Well, my vacation is just about over….I’ll be back in the office tomorrow (Tuesday).  I didn’t really go anywhere.  Just worked around the house, barn, and pasture.  Kind of reminds me of Andy Griffith’s idea of vacation:  ”I think I’ll just sit around the house…do a little gardening…read the National Geographics…and just take it easy!”  It was Bro. Jeff’s idea for me to take two weeks instead of one and I can really tell a difference.

I can tell today, though, that it’s time for my vacation to be over….I’ve been a little “antsy” and bored for the first time during the past two weeks.  We’ve got lots facing us.  Mother’s Day is this Sunday…Reality Check is coming up in a little under two months…and our children’s drama, a Grace Life Music original production is the second week in August.
My thanks to everyone who worked extra hard to cover for me while I was away.  I’m glad to be back….

I’ll Be Back

Posted by tom On April - 27 - 2009

I’m in the middle of a two-week vacation (in case you haven’t seen that on Twitter or Facebook). I’ll be back writing posts next week when I get back in the office. Keep checking back at this site to read more stuff about church music. Tell your friends about it, too! Thanks for checking in!

My Top Five

Posted by tom On March - 11 - 2009

A few entries ago, I asked for your top five CDs/projects that you just can’t “live without”, so-to-speak. I also gave my word that I would share with you my top five.

Hopefully I won’t be prone to edit it so here it is:

1. Phil Keaggy—The Wind And The Wheat

2. Michael Card—The Word: Recapturing The Imagination

3. Steve Green—Hymns: A Portrait Of Christ

4. A Thankgiving Of American Folk Hymns

5. The Suntones: The Complete Collection

I just caught a mistake with this blog as to why your comments have not been posting. The email address that I’ve been using to moderate the comments has been deactivated by our IT guy at the church. I have just now corrected the problem so if you have tried to comment in the last couple of weeks and have not seen them, that’s why.

Hopefully, I’ve got the problem fixed so comment away!
